Martijn Malessy is Professor of Nerve Surgery and founder of the Nerve Center at the Leiden University Medical Center, the Netherlands. He has a vast experience in the surgical treatment of complex nerve lesions, nerve and cerebello-pontine-angle tumours, complex nerve entrapment syndromes and neuropathic pain due to a nerve lesion. He was the 2016-2017 President of the American Society for Peripheral Nerve and he is member of the Peripheral Nerve Surgery Committee of the World Federation of Neurosurgical Societies. In addition, he is Associate Editor of “Neurosurgery” for the Peripheral Nerve section. He received the H. Verbiest prize of the Dutch Society of Neurosurgeons for scientific work on the brachial plexus. In 2013 he was the Visiting Interdisciplinary Professor in Peripheral Nerve Surgery at the Mayo Clinic. In 2014 he was the awarded Kline Lecturer of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons.
